Professor Shih-Wei Lo and Associate Professor Jui-Pi Su of Tunghai University in Taiwan have been invited as lecturers for this year's Workshop (Theory).

Professor Lo suggests that "timescape" is a helpful concept in considering the city. He sees four lines connecting the present urban area of Yokohama centered on the Kannai and Kangai districts from which the city originated. These lines represent spines, that is, urban axes. Students will split up into four groups, one for each spine, and begin research and study. At the end, they will be asked to present ideas for constructing a new environment for their respective spines.

<Summary of Problem>

Let us understand the phenomenon of time in the city and discover urban time in the true sense. Then let us create a new image and suggest a "timescape" for the city. Different communities have different timescapes. The concept of timescape can be said to be composed of the following four elements.

1. Time-Pool

2. Time-Attractor

3.  Time-Ripple

4. Time-Loop

The 4 Spines

The Kannai and Kangai districts can be said to be organized around the following four spines.
