Toward a Proposal

After research, a discussion on new development in Barcelona was held.  The proposal will be required to consider the following five elements and to explain how each will be effective.

1. Waterfront
2. Topography
3. Buildings
4. Program
5. Transportation

Proposal 1 "Heart of BCN"

Keywords

sleeping potential

roof music network

Concept

This project is one that extends throughout the city.  Many music scenes will be generated through the effective utilization of hitherto hidden places in the city, but the totality will be impossible to grasp.  Only parts can be recognized from corridors that bridge buildings.  The seaside area, which will most embody the circularity generated in existing urban areas, will become a "street of music" and provide Barcelona with a new image.

Proposal 2 "Spread from Ramblas to Waterfront"

Keywords

flow

spread from Ramblas to waterfront

relationship with programs

Concept

Many people with diverse objectives walk on the Ramblas.   Compared with the Ramblas, the vicinity of the waterfront sees few pedestrians.  We therefore decided to create new, connected public spaces so as to extend the movement of people from the Ramblas to the waterfront and to make the waterfront more lively.

Eliminating dilapidated buildings will create connected open spaces.  By endowing each space with it own music program, we felt that pedestrians will be able to discover new connections between music and other programs and that the neighborhood and the buildings will assume a more diverse appearance.

Keywords

new viewpoint

Concept

This project will present an attractive section on the coastline of Barcelona.  The new plaza will enable people to experience new encounters and events, accept the flow of people from the existing urban area to the sea, and become a music plaza that will promote such a flow.b_n_f_pic1.jpg

Structure

Concept

Continuity between the Ramblas and the coastline is reinforced by arranging (on a site that is extended in the transverse direction, that is, parallel to the coastline) a linear building that is at right angles to the major orientation of the site.  The intention is to make the extensive site more human in scale, make use of the flow of people from the urban area, and create an urban device that will transport people naturally to the coastline.

Proposal 5 "Delicious Flow - think about flow and coast line"

delicious-flow_log.jpg

Angel Mora (Chiba University), Takuma Tsuji, Yohei Tsuji

Keywords

people flow

floating program

traffic design

Concept

This is a proposal to transform the coastline by the flow of people so that the configuration is more evocative of human life.  The curved design of the coastline creates both a place to reside and a flow of tourists.  Simultaneously redesigning the transportation plan including roads and street spaces will form a coastline that is more open to people.  The folded coastline where music, events and circuses will be performed from the sea will enable people to enjoy fully these floating programs.  This is a proposal for creating a "delicious coastline" through the study of the flow of people and the coastline.

Proposal 6 "Topographical Coast Line"

Keywords

Topographical map

Concept

A roof  with a topographical configuration will be created; thus a man-made topography will appear on the coastline.  In the space underneath that roof, functions such as music halls and studios will be arranged.  The aim is a project that will integrate topography with urban functions.  The city will be given an added dimension, and a flow of activities will be promoted by converting a two-dimensional site into three dimensions.

Proposal 7 "topo G + B"

Keywords

Geometry

Morphology

Complexity

Concept

The foundation for a new waterfront will be created, based on numerous lines.  Those numerous lines are extensions of street and building configurations expressed on maps.  The intersections of lines are nodes for vistas.  By means of those nodes, a new cityscape will be created.
