Learning is more fun than teaching. Learning is more admirable than teaching. Learning is more fun because it is instinctive. It is the same with babies. They cannot keep from learning. Learning is wonderful. If the initiative truly rested with the teacher, then, since the teacher is teaching everyone uniformly, you would expect all students to develop incrementally and in direct proportion to the time and effort expended in teaching. However, there are always students who have made no progress but who suddenly show a dramatic improvement, for example, after spring break. It is strange, but some students seem to learn only when vacation begins. Teaching is not very exciting because it is systematic. However, learning is a primitive activity that is more instinctive; it cannot be halted by anyone--that is what makes it so exciting. You can learn from one moment to the next, while you are eating, watching a film, listening to music or having a discussion. It is a lot more fun.
