Born in Kanagawa Prefecture in 1966. Graduated with a master’s degree in architecture from Yokohama National University and entered Kazuyo Sejima & Associates in 1990. Established SANAA with Kazuyo Sejima in 1995. Established Office of Ryue NIshizawa in 1997. Associate professor, Yokohama National University, since 2001. Awards include Architectural Institute of Japan Prize in 1998 (Multimedia Studio) and 2006 (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa); Golden Lion, 9th Venice Biennale for Architecture in 2004.
